Starting a new Kiwanis fiscal year

Ahead of the Installation banquet when leadership changes over, the club is preparing to pay its annual dues (due October 10th). Our treasurer, Patricia Hatch, estimates it will cost $150 per member. We have 28 members, presently. It will cost $4,200 to pay the bill. As we look at the roster, we have removed members who have left us due to various reasons (job change, moving out of the area). We also want all of you who may anticipate a change in circumstances to let us know as soon as possible. We don't want to incur an unnecessary financial burden on the club. Keep in mind, we value everyone in our membership but are responsible for balancing all of the needs of the organization. If a change is approaching, please let us know by Monday, Oct. 7th so we can make the change on the KI website.

Thank you for your consideration.

ELECTIONS

President Tina S. held elections for positions that have opened up.

  • Fred was approved as Incoming President.

  • Roland was approved as a Director.

  • Lawson was approved as a Director.

Fred leaves a director position open. If there is interest from a member in the club, please let a board member know.

SOLO UPDATE

The club is scheduled to host the Save Our Lakes Fish Fry on Friday, Oct. 25th from 3-7 PM. Scott Slater and Fred anticipate needing 18 volunteers to properly handle the event. Scott said he thinks around 350-400 people will attend including the Gatorland Water Ski Show Team.

Scott gave a brief update on the pipeline project. Currently, Brooklyn Lake is at 111 ft. above sea level. He said at 113 ft., water will begin to flow from Brooklyn to Little Keystone Lake. He said the outflow from Alligator Creek is 13 million gallons per day as a result of high water level in Blue Pond and Lowry Lake. He said, imagine how much more water will flow once the Water Management District opens up an additional 10 million gallons per day from Black Creek. Scott said the pipeline should be flowing in January.

While some club members signed up at today's meeting, please let Fred know if you able to help.
