Fantastic week for honoring a citizen

The highlight of my week was honoring Huntley Redfearn, Jr. on his special day, Jan. 4, 2018. My friend Huntley Redfearn, Jr. is the oldest, living resident in the City of Keystone Heights. He's a retired business owner. He's a former president of the Rotary Club of Keystone Heights. He served as president of the Volunteer Fire Department for multiple years.

He served three terms as a councilperson. He personifies our town. And yes, in my introduction of Huntley, I had a good time ribbing him that - as a first - I was talking, and Huntley was listening. Anyone who knows Huntley knows he likes to talk and tell stories. I did tell a story about his time on city council.

Here is what I want you to know about my relationship with Huntley. He's honest with me. I'm honest with him. It works. We don't candy coat anything to make the other feel better about ourselves and I appreciate that in my life.

His level of dedication is the goal standard.

I don't always agree with him but love the fact that he came before us. He paved the way. He served many, many hours on behalf of our town. Enough said. I love you, Huntley Redfearn, Jr.

I want to thank our city attorney, Rich Komando, who delivered a well written letter of appreciation from Senator Rob Bradley. Huntley was on council when they made the decision to bring this law firm on board and I know it meant a lot to Huntley for Sen. Bradley to have taken the time to honor him on his special day.

Clay Day at the Legislature is next. Clay County - and all of the best facets of its entities - are headed to Tallahassee Wednesday afternoon for a reception and Thursday for "Clay Day." The City of Keystone Heights is represented with myself, the City Clerk and the City Manager as well as the Heritage Committee and the Keystone Airport Authority.

It is my first experience at the Capitol and I'm super excited to share it with you next week after we get back.

Yesterday, as soon as the temps rose above freezing, I headed out to Twin Lakes Park to watch a 3v3 soccer tournament hosted by Keystone Youth Soccer League. The Rotary Club of Keystone Heights supports Trevor Waters and his efforts to fund scholarships for kids in our area who want to play soccer. We use to hold this tournament in February but it was too, cold. We moved our event to a warmer month but Trevor, wanted to fill in the gap.

Great to see families, wrapped warmly out on a Saturday morning. And, oh yeah, Santa Fe students were out there playing. Go Saints.

Go Jags. Survive and advance.
