Many thanks to Tina B. and Marilyn for organizing the 35th anniversary celebration. There was good membership attendance and it was lovely to see former members return and join in the fun. The guests included:
Laura Dean, former Lt. Governor
Tony Brown, former mayor
Jude Sorano, former member
Betty Hodges, former treasurer
Keith Hatch, former member
Bill Chesnut, current Square Dancing caller
Rebecca Farmer, former member
There was an icebreaker game based on the question, "What unusual job (volunteer or otherwise) have you done that people may be surprised to learn about you?" Several of the responses:
Cataloging dead birds-Mary Ann Kyle
Pilot-Mary Leigh Chandler
Desk sergeant for a city police department-Marilyn Martin
Volunteer at the Jacksonville Zoo-Tina Santillo (as did Tina Bullock)
Pitching watermelons-Jude Sorano
Selling watermelons on the side of the road-Jessica Brombach
There was a musical game - of sorts - where Tina B. played the first few bars on a kazoo and we had to write down the name of the songs. Patricia H. did us proud. She picked up a prize. The songs included:
America the Beautiful
Yankee Doodle Dandy
Take Me Out to the Ballgame
Country Roads Take Me Home
This Land is My Land
And, there was a Jeopardy-styled game in which the Blue Team (led by Fred G.) and the Yellow Team (led by Laura Dean) answered questions in categories like, "Words in Kiwanis," "Movies of 1989," "Prices in 1989," Things in History in 1989," and "Towns, Yesterday and Today."
The Blue Team won with a score of 33-25.
