We've enjoyed a rainy March and now into April, the rain continues. The Lake Region is always thankful for the rain. Kiwanis had a busy and productive week this past week.
REALITY CHECK
On Friday, Kiwanians Debbie and Todd Beals, Tina Bullock, Patricial Hatch and Karen Lake attended the Reality Check at KHHS which was sponsored by the Community Partnership School at Keystone Heights Junior and Senior High School and Capital City Bank. It was hands-on exercise in learning about financial literacy.
Each student was assigned a job type, a married or single status, and a number of children in the family. Students were tasked to decide which living expenses were more important (or not) and then go to the table of each expense and assigned a value. For example, a married firefighter earning $40,000 a year with a spouse earning $2,000 per month and having more than 2 children were given a $300 monthly expense in Clothing. There were many other categories. Needless to say, there were students who selected a fancy car on a beer budget who later regretted their expenditure.
In speaking with Kiwanians at the event, most felt it was a beneficial time spent helping students understand the importance of living within their means and making smart financial decisions.
The CPS at KHHS welcomed Superintendent Broskie to view the event learning quickly that - even though it was a first-time event - it was well organized by Tina Baker and Ginger Lee and a delicious lunch from Florida Cracker Kitchen was served to volunteers.
DADDY-DAUGHTER DANCE
Also on Friday evening, Dana Eatmon and Jenn Cumbus (K Kids sponsors) planned and executed the much anticipated Daddy-Daughter Dance at KHES.

An "Enchanted Evening" was the theme for the dance. It was held in the elementary school gym and 350 people attended. This dynamite duo continue to over achieve so students can create memories. Thank you, so much, ladies.
BASKETS FOR BRAVERY
Our club wants to thank first responders for their bravery and commitment to public service. The board decided to purchase 3 baskets to fill with homemade goodies. The baskets will be going to the Keystone, Melrose and McRae stations. Patricia is providing the baskets. A sign-up sheet will be availabe at the next meeting. Please be thinking about what you can make to contribute to the project.
The plan is to bring the goodies to the third meeting of the month (the night meeting at Clyde's on April 21st). Or, Kiwanians can drop goodies off during the day on the 21st at Patricia and Keith's office. The baskets will be deliverd on Saturday, April 23rd.
COUNTRY MEADOWS
Mary Leigh invited Jed Duckro to speak to the club about his sub-division project located at the intersection of Nightingale Street and Sunrise Boulevard. The 14-acre property is designed for 55 new homes. The models will sell for $225,000-$275,000 depending upon add-ons to the home. They range between 3 and 4-bedroom models. Jed held an Open House on Saturday to invite people in to see the plans. All homes will be on CCUA water and sewer. He said he expects to hear from the city for a date to be heard in Planning and Zoning within the next couple of weeks.
NOTES
The club thanks Tina S. for dedicating space at Ameris Bank to store Kiwanis property and Buff for donating shelving to get the space organized.
Have a great week, everyone.
