Invited by Tina B., Alison Lauer (and her adorable daughter, Stella) shared the different levels of funding available to Florida clubs. She made several points during her presentation:
Lake Region Kiwanis Keystone Heights-Melrose is a sustaining membership club meaning each member contributes at least $25 per year.
Our club has applied for several mini grants through the Foundation. Mini grants range from $0-$750. Clubs can apply once a year.
Matching Grants can be used for capital expenses up to $10,000. Applications are accepted June 15 and December 15 each year. Clubs can apply every five years.
D & D Batelaan Grants are used for children with disabilities. The grant funds up to $10,000. No match is needed. Applications are accepted June 15 and December 15 every year. Alison said the Foundation has seen a number of applications requesting adaptive playground equipment.
Leadership Program Grants help SLPs start projects. The grant is up to $1,000. Applications are due June 15 and December 15.
Blechman Grant funds projects for five years and younger up to $2,250 and the application deadline is December 15.
NOTES FROM THE MEETING
KHHS football attendance is down, consequently, downtown businesses have been gifted free tickets from the school. Patricia suggested club members buy tickets, wear the Kiwanis yellow t-shirt and sit together for Homecoming this weekend.
Golf Chair Todd is asking every member to put together one basket and donate it to the tournament as a silent auction item.
Membership Chair Fred is starting a Membership Committee and will meet the second Tuesday of every month at 5:30 PM at Hatch Realty. All members are on the Membership Committee.
Hospitality Chair Fred has put together a hospitality trailer so that the club has a mobile kitchen (grill, griddle, funnel cake fryer) to prepare food anywhere we want to go. The Emmanuel Project is a countywide mobile health services unit who parks at Lake Area Ministries the first Thursday of every month. Historically, an individual or church has provided free meals for LAM clients picking up food on Thursday evening. Fred said Kiwanis will provide the meal on Nov. 2nd. Time to be determined.
