The club has had two great program speakers the past couple of weeks. First, we had a visit from the Clay County Education Foundation where the club presented a check in the amount of $750 as a result of Patricia Hatch writing a mini-grant to the Kiwanis Foundation. The money will buy supplies for the quarterly teacher's store (Tools for Schools) located inside the gym at KHES. CEO Carolyn Krall said last year the foundation raised $138,000 to serve over 1,100 teachers districtwide. She said the stores help with teacher retention, Apple awards, recruiting and connecting communities with classrooms. She said the stores also create equal opportunities especially for teachers in the south end of the county. Krall said the foundation participated in college career readiness events where they helped students fill out the federal application for financial aid.
CHILDREN'S HOME SOCIETY UPDATE
Director Isaac Morford gave the club an update on activities at the Community Partnership School. He said there are 14 spots slated for this summer's Camp BOOST. Applications are going out early to get ahead of the curve. Our club sponsored five of the 14 spots through a Clay Electric grant.
